Once upon a time there was a little girl with a big voice who sant at the Rev. C.L. Franklin's New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit. This singing prodigy grew up listening to gospel notables like Mahalia Jackson and secular singers including Dinah Washington and Sam Cooke, who all visited the Franklin residence. You see, Rev.
