Boston French Film Festival Film Michou d?Auber 4:15 pm Thursday, July 24, 2008 Remis Auditorium Michou d?Auber by Thomas Gilou (2007, 124 min.). Gérard Depardieu has never been more entertaining as Georges, a former soldier who is married to Gisèle (Nathalie Baye). It's 1960, and they live in the rural town of Berry, France. They are childless, but Gisèle hopes that bringing a child into their home will brighten their days. When Gisèle brings home Messaoud, a nine-year-old Algerian boy, she decides it's best to hide his cultural identity for fear Georges and the neighbors may disapprove (the Algerian conflict is front-page news). Messaoud's name is changed to Michel, or ?Michou d?Auber,? and he is introduced to life in rural France. Unfortunately, Gisèle's deception is soon revealed, endangering their loving care and resulting in an extraordinarily heartrending story. Also starring Mathieu Amalric and Samy Seghir. Interviews with stars Nathalie Baye and Gerard Depardieu
