Introduction to Western-style papermaking

In this workshop, we’ll introduce the basic principles of Western-style papermaking from rag and various other fibers using basic wove moulds. Using pre-prepared pulp from the Collective’s rag and paper-scrap collection, we’ll learn how to pull sheets that can be used in bookbinding, printing, collage — or whatever else strikes your fancy. Materials will be provided. We’ll have two kinds of pulp to work with.
No experience necessary. Expect to get wet and messy — we do have aprons, but wear comfortable working clothes. The floor gets slippery in the wet room, so we recommend sneakers or other closed-toe shoes with good soles. This workshop does not count as safety training for studio rental, as we won’t be demonstrating proper use of the beater.
