The Worst Dining Experience of My Life

I went to Ricardo's Restaurant for Valentine's Day with a couple of friends and it was the WORST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. We sat down at 9:30 PM and did not get our food until 11:30 PM. Although the food was OK, the service at this restaurant (mainly the owner and other members of the upper management) was HORRIBLE.

One of the tables in the dining area had been waiting for their food for 3 hours. Approximately 10 minutes before their food came out they had asked their waitress for the check because they wanted to pay for their drinks and leave. However, a check was not brought and instead they were visited by the owner. In a situation like this one would think that the owner would show respect to the customer and apologize to them but these were not the actions taken by the owner. Instead, he was rude and basically made them stay and eat their food (I believe he gave them free drinks after they complained about not getting anything in return for their long wait time). Once they finally finished eating they did not want to pay for the meal due to the awful experience they had had. This caused the owner and other upper level management to once again confront the table.

This conversation was even worse than the first one. The owner threatened to call the cops and made a HUGE scene in front of the entire restaurant, leaving an extremely poor impression on the remaining customers who had also been waiting a long time for their food.

Typically when one has such a poor experience and waits for over 2 hours to get their food a restaurant will comp all if not some of their meal, however, this restaurant cared very little about their customers and didn't even offer a free drink. I cannot believe how bad the upper management handled this situation. Instead of taking blame for their faults and trying to apologize to their customers, this restaurant was rude and UNPROFESSIONAL.

This is the first review I have ever written and hopefully it is the only one I will ever have to write. Not only am I NOT RECOMMENDING Ricardo's Restaurant of Boston on this website, but I will be actively spreading the word to friends and colleagues so that they do not have to experience the same experience I had.

owners are rude, service is terrible, everything is overpriced

I have never written a restaurant review, but was blows away at how horrible the service was at Riccardo's last night that I felt the urge to write one. I am a very laid back person, and never truly speak my mind but this was an exception. You will be shocked when you read this, please read the entire review (especially the last two paragraphs, as I'm sure they will change your mind about going here).

After waiting to be seated (with a reservation), the host began seating couples that arrived after myself and my date for the same 6:00 reservation. Finally we got seated and here is where things got worse.

A bottle of water was placed on the table, the host opened the bottle without asking and served it to us (this bottle was $7, come to find out). I then asked for our waitresses for her recommendation on my meal, I was undecided between two meals, her resonse was "if you want chicken, get the chicken one, if you want veal, get the veal." Hmm, thanks for the help.

Finally our meal was complete, the food was decent, and our waitress came over with the bill and let us know that "in order to move tables quickly, no desert will be served."

I had an online gift certificate from this restaurant, I was told that because it was Valentine's Day I could not use my gift certificate! I had the host get the restaurant owner to my table and let him know that I am a college student on a tight budget and that this policy was unfair, as nowhere on the certificate did it say that holidays were excluded, here was his response was: "I am the owner, I can make any policies I please. Plus, are you really going to try to use a promotional certificate on Valentine's Day?" He said this as arrogantly as possible, as if I were the cheapest person he's ever come across when really, if it weren't for that certificate, I could have never afforded to eat there! He then handed me the bill back and told me that they were trying to move tables quickly - nothing was done about the certificate.

Once the bill was handed back to me, just to show them that I was irritated, I said "fine then, I'll have another water," the waitress then, as sarcastic as possible said, "oh, would you like another BOTTLE of water?", I said "no tap is fine." MY OWN WAITRESS WAS BEING RUDE TO HER OWN TABLE! I crossed out the tip section because the service was horrid and wrote, "please ask restaurant owner for your tip", she then came back to my table and told me that this was not fair because she is a single mom - pleading me to put a tip. How is this restaurant still in business, for humanity sake, please do not go here as these owners clearly can't see beyond their own GREED. HORRIBLE BUSINESS STAY AWAY!!!!!!
