Can a pizza place make good fish tacos? Yes, though the fish is really the least of the dish here, with black beans, plenty of slaw, crema, and bright green cilantro. It looks pretty, too.

Charred heaven. Blasted in an ultra-hot ceramic oven, a Picco pie is blackened in spots with a well-textured crust, a bit puffy and tender yet crisp.

If the South End were a neighborhood full of ninth-graders who earned six-figure incomes and lived in luxury condos, Picco would be the perfect after-school hangout. It's all about pizza and ice cream.

At Rick Katz's month-old Picco, on the ground floor of the South End building that houses the multimillion-dollar condos of Atelier 505, pizza and ice cream rule the menu -- Picco stands for Pizza and Ice Cream Company, after all. And when you get right down to it, is there any better combination of foods?

Excellent Pizza, but Very Pricey

Enjoyed my first Picco pizza on Saturday after the Bruins rally. Wonderful taste, but VERY pricey at $21.50 for a "Large" pepperoni pizza that is comparable in size to a small at most other restaurants.
