OK, let's start by saying that I'm a native Bostonian and I was going to Boston eateries long before the ultra-hip and poseur crowd arrived on the scene. This place is the real deal. Excellent seafood. The rugged old detail is real, not contrived. The place has been around for over 200 years,so soak up some Boston history while you are there.
Chowder is excellent, and I can't think of a better place to get traditional broiled cod or haddock. Clams and oysters are always fresh.
There might be hipper places to go if you want to be seen and act like you're the hippest thing east of 128. But if you want great seafood and a real Boston experience, this is your place. Take it from me, I know!

My family and I had lunch at the Union Oyster House on our recent trip to Boston. The lobster I had was great, my husbands was so so. But the service was the worst we incounter on this trip. Our server disspeared for long period of time and we spent nearly $130 for lunch. I would recomend the Lazy man's lobster. Do not have the whole lobster on its shell it was not that good.
