I really wanted this place to succeed. I love the Publick House a few blocks east, run by the same people. So when the Roadhouse opened, I went. The food was really disappointing -- dry, bland -- and the waitress was clueless about the food and the menu. I gave it a few months and, last night, went back. If anything, the food was worse and the service was awful -- bad enough in both cases for me to write this online review, something I have never done before. You'd think at a barbecue place, the staff would at the very least refill your water glasses once in a while. Or that in a place that prides itself on its (great) beer selection, it would take less than 20 minutes for your beer to come. And, no, it wasn't overly crowded, though business has picked up. As far as I can tell, this has made the place only more smug. I was waiting for someone to ask us how our meal was, but no one did. Skip the Roadhouse and go to the Publick House, where they have figured out what they're doing.

The chili is great. Catfish fingers are fish sticks gone to heaven. Cisco Grey Lady and Green Flash West Coast IPA prime the pump. But when the barbecue arrives, Houston, Kansas City, and Memphis, we have a problem. (Full review)
