Tall Heights & Connor Garvey

In the summer of 2010, this Boston-based duo was playing for spare change in Faneuil Hall Marketplace. In the year since, Tall Heights has performed alongside national acts like David Wilcox, Barefoot Truth, and Andrew Belle, and headlined packed houses across New England. They have independently sold over 2,000 copies of their debut album.
On September 13th, Tall Heights unveiled their follow-up, completely independent project, Rafters, and sold 700 copies in the first 7 days. While many artists… Show more in their genre of late have retreated to the wilderness to record, Tall Heights stayed in the city. These five tracks were recorded over a few sweltering months in a small bedroom of their Boston apartment with little more than an SM58 microphone, an iMac, a guitar, a cello and their voices. And, although there was neither cabin nor lake, Rafters is already spreading across their Thoreauvian folk scene like brushfire. Release show dates for the new EP will bring Tall Heights from Portland to Atlanta this fall.
Connor Garvey's songs are like placing folk-funk guitar & ukulele, soulful vocals, and paradoxical metaphors in a juicer- you've never tasted it before, but it's intriguing and delectable so you have to keep drinking. His clever rhythmic string foundations provide a medium for his most prominent instrument, his voice. His songs draw the attention of the whole room with humor, daring honesty, and ...grace through "a universal message that people can grab hold to...just the kind of thing I needed." Examine Garvey's musical palette, and you will find songwriting masters like Martin Sexton, David Wilcox, Paul Simon, Greg Brown, and Deb Talan (The Weepies) plus hues from artists such as Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Catie Curtis, and Josh Ritter. His style can be described as upbeat-indie-new-folk and he has been compared with the likes of Josh Ritter, Dave Wilcox, Paul Simon, Jason Mraz, and Kymia Dawsen. This speaks both to his performance approach and diversity with which he weaves his shows together. And he listens to a lot of funk.
Though Garvey has been shaping his musical craft for over 10 years, it has only been since October 2008 that he has focused on music as a full time vocation.
