What you should bring to Camp?
MobileCamp is free (as in free beer) to attend, but your participation is the true price of admission. Please bring the following things with you:
Willingness to participate: you don't have to lead a meeting, but you shouldn't be a wall flower either - get involved
Positive attitude: You're going to hear a lot of different ideas - come with an open mind and ears
Demos: got something cool you're working on? Bring it along and share it
Business cards: you'll be doing a lot of networking
An extra power strip is handy and will make you some new friends
What will the next five years bring?
This year’s theme for MobileCamp Boston is “What Now?” Since the original MobileCamp held four years ago, mobile has fulfilled and exceeded the expectations discussed at those first sessions. During that time we’ve seen the rise in fortunes for new industry players and the decline of established ones. Today, start-ups design their services ‘mobile first’ to reach the most people, quickly foregoing or delaying desktop solutions. This is your chance to collaborate with visionaries, developers, entrepreneurs, investors, and carriers in the mobile industry, and explore the potential for the future of the mobile industry. Building on the success of previous years’ MobileCamps, this year’s full-day event will bring together hundreds of participants and will feature technical sessions, discussions on industry topics, and the popular unconference style learning. If you are interested in leading a session for the 2012 MobileCamp Boston, or have any questions about the event, please send an email to ‘learn’ [at] ‘momoboston.com’. Tips for Sessions
Minimize Powerpoint: Camp is about discussions and sharing ideas, not to be bored to tears. It's OK to have a few slides if you need to explain something complex, but no one wants to sit through your 20 slides - leave that for the traditional conferences. We'll have overhead capability in some of the rooms, but why not just write a few notes on the backboard and encourage discussion. Minimize Product Pitches: A lot of us attending work on mobile products and services, and we want to tell everyone about what we're doing and maybe to get them to try stuff out. But, don't expect campers to sit through your standard sales pitch. It's better to tell people about what you learned while developing and delivering your product/service.
