Guitars In The Classroom: Music Leadership And Integration Training For Education

This weeklong course requires no guitar skills or musical training. The class will go from 10Am to 2PM daily, with a lunch break.
Are you a teacher, a teachers aid, a school administrator, resource specialist, school therapist/counselor, or a staff member in a school? Do you know someone who is? Would you like to learn to make music with students in order to teach academic and other subjects? This summer, thanks to Passim School of Music and The SongBomb project ( ), Guitars in the Classroom, a nationally… Show more active educational 501(c)3 is offering a first-of-its-kind One Week Intensive Training in music integration for anyone working with students in grades preschool through 8. (High school teachers are welcome to join if they don't mind focusing on songs for younger students.) Participants need have no prior musical experience to enroll. Shower singers are welcome. Loaner guitars will be available by advanced request and all musical supplies will be given to participants free of charge thanks to GITC's sponsors.
Within the week, everyone will be playing guitar, developing singing and song leadership skills, writing songs with lyrics for learning across the pre-K-8 curriculum, and will be integrating special techniques for detecting and addressing learning styles, learning disabilities, and for boosting language skills through songs. This is especially helpful for children acquiring English as a second language.
Lesson planning is also an important part of this training. Participants will learn how to integrate a song into a lesson plan based on content standards, how build a lesson around a song, and how to choose the song form that imparts the kind of information students need to learn. You will also learn to facilitate group songwriting in your classroom.
Three top trainers from Gitc will be present to work with the teachers in this class. Because of space considerations, enrollment in each class is limited to 8 teachers.
