David Ortiz has had a rough year. There was the home run drought. There was the steroids scandal. And there is Big Papi’s Grille, a Framingham restaurant named for Ortiz in which he is a financial partner. It’s not so much that the place is terrible, although it’s not very good. It’s that Ortiz - even an embattled Ortiz - deserves to have his name on a restaurant with style and personality. Big Papi the slugger is a beaming, charismatic individual on and off the field. Big Papi the restaurant is generic - a midrange steakhouse in Applebee’s style architecture, a bead in a chain of similar establishments on Route 9.

never going again

well, i am finally getting around to writing about how much money we wasted going here. food was poor to say the least...our table ordered 6 meals, 3 of which got fries. what restaurant would send out 2 different types of fries to the same table? one hot and crisp, the other cold and soggy. not to mention the flavorless and previously frozen tuna tartar. we couldn't even chew the calamari. salads were ok, just once again, lacked flavor. are the dressings only made with oil? burgers ordered medium rare, came out charred. both of them. i am willing to pay good money for a good steak, but these are flavorless due to a lack of seasoning. not a hint of salt at all. i thought getting a side of bearnaise would help, if you want to call what they serve bearnaise... even my daughter was disappointed in her pasta. she's 4 years old! what 4 year old do you know that doesnt wanna eat pasta with sauce? meatloaf was ok, mashed potatoes were the highlight of the night. it almost called for an applause when somebody found something to eat. we all should have just ordered bowls of mashed potatoes. who screws those up? and please, dont put homemade whip cream on your menu when its not homemade!!!

Awesome

I came to Massachusetts from Florida to visit family and absolutely needed to go to Big Papi's Restaurant. I am a die hard Red Sox fan and I love David Ortiz. My dad has lung cancer and he was with us he himself couldn't miss the opportunity to go to Big Papi's. The restaurant was an beautiful place, great wait staff, very accommodating with people with disabilities, food was delicious. great variety. The decor was terrific, I loved the whole baseball atmosphere. The valet was friendly and offered us assistance with a smile. Our waitress took our picture together as a family and that picture may be the only picture we have of our entire family together!! I have since returned to Florida but will always have the BEST memory of visiting Big Papi's Restaurant. It was the perfect day for me. Thank you!
