Every neighborhood should have a Bon Savor. You're greeted warmly, tempting kitchen aromas waft into the dining room, and diners at other tables -- which are quite close -- are having interesting discussions (you can't help but eavesdrop). Oleg Konovalov and Ibonne Zabala, co-owners of the charming 19-seat storefront, are Russian and Colombian respectively. So his grandmother's crepes are on the menu filled with creamy dulce de leche ($6.50). The cuisine is a mixture of French and South American, cooked by Colombian chef Alba Aranda. This is food you could be spending much more money for. But then you'd have room around the tables, wouldn't have the coziness, and all the charm would be gone. Attention Veggies and Vegans!!!
We initially went to the Alchemist for dinner. After being informed that one of the two vegetarian entree's had run out, we left. We ended up at Bon Savor and were very pleasantly surprised. We had been many times before, mostly for breakfast. They had always had some vegetarian options, but the new Veggie and Vegan menu is AMAZING! (Don't worry, carnivores, there is a regular menu too.) The Veggie Explosion Crepe is out of this world. You do not have to be Vegetarian to love it. The wine menu and desserts can't be beat. When word gets out about this new menu, I bet the place is full every night. Get your reservations in!

Hail, Boston, our city of neighborhoods. From the east, the aroma of tortillas on the griddle, char-bottomed pizza pies, and airplane fumes mingled with paper-cup coffee. By the water, lobster wholesalers, urban fish shacks, and metal shipping containers in Cezanne hues, dispersing into North End brick, garlic sizzling in olive oil, and sauces cooked for hours. Live shrimp and pea shoots and pork potstickers in Chinatown, ginger and scallions and white rice plain and perfect. On to lobster Savannah. Oysters and chowder. Fenway franks. The South End, roast chicken, sticky buns, steak frites, rinse, repeat. And into the boroughs: Irish bars, burritos, Burmese soups, soul food, sushi seven ways (or more). For every quirky little neighborhood, dozens of quirky little restaurants and dishes, and the people who love them. It is as good a reason as any to live here. Better than most.
