Explore the vernal pools and the forest looking for slimy yet cute amphibians like a wood frog or a yellow spotted salamander. Take a look at invertebrates under the microscope and learn about the cool adaptations of reptiles and amphibians that depend on healthy wetland habitats. Energy Entering grades 3-6 What is energy, where does it come from and how does it work? Being energy efficient helps the environment. Join us for an energy audit of Drumlin Farm to discover how we can save more energy and learn how to save energy back at your own homes. Tour the farm to see all the ways we are "greening" up the farm. Activities include: an energy audit, building mini-solar cars, solar ovens, building mini-windmills, insulation exploration, greenhouse gas experiments and tree planting. Nature Crafters Entering grades 2-4 The outdoors provides the inspiration to explore the arts! Stretch your imagination to design your own art while working with a local artist to sketch, paint or photograph the sanctuary. We will explore different mediums such as pencils, chalk, watercolors, digital photography, rocks, sticks and clay. Garden Gourmets Entering grades 3-6 Harvest some fresh veggies in the garden then head to the kitchen to prepare some tasty treats. Focusing on learning about local farms and food and the importance healthy nutrition using whole foods, campers will work with a chef to create meals and snacks to inspire their culinary creativity. Campers will learn about the growing cycle of vegetables, and how to preserve vegetables through canning and root storage; they will also help plant or harvest vegetables. Fabulous Forests Entering grades 1-4 What better place to spend a summer day than under the forest canopy. Learn about the levels of the forest from the creatures in the soil to the birds on the tops of the trees. Explore why trees are so important and learn to identify trees by their leaf shape. Build mouse houses and do arts and crafts projects using natural objects. Habitats & Hideways Entering grades K-2 Turkeys, deer, foxes, birds, salamanders and more call Drumlin Farm home. Do you know where to find their homes? Join us as we explore their habitats and learn how and where they builid their homes. Build a bird nest and design a critter condo. Farmyard Frolics Entering grades 1-4 Grab a pitchfork and get ready for some farmyard fun. Meet our animals; groom the pony, milk the cow, collect eggs, muck out a staff, pet the sheep and goats, learn how to work with wool and eat some fresh veggies. This mini-camp is all about the farm.
