Gone But Not Forgotten: A Victorian House in Mourning
Black draping signals to all who pass by that this house is in mourning. The occasion is the funeral of former Hearthside owner, Simon E. Thornton, who died on May 2, 1873. His body was prepared at the house by the undertaker, and the coffin was displayed in the Drawing Room for friends to pay their respects. In this re-creation, antique funerary equipment and accessories fill each of the rooms, including the actual table used for Mr. Thornton's embalming. Tour with guides dressed in black.
