This is a big night out for Pitchfork-reading hip-hop fans, with El-P bringing Killer Mike, Mr. (Expletive) Exquire and Despot to Phoenix. The Brooklyn-based rapper/producer co-founded alternative hip-hop imprint Definitive Jux in 1999, releasing classic albums by Aesop Rock, RJD2 and Murs, to name a few. El-P’s most recent album, “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead,” brought home an A from Stylus magazine, whose reviewer declared it “a rhapsody in bleak.”
