The Salem CultureFest 2007 will be held on Saturday, July 28th (from 10AM until 8PM) and Sunday, July 29th (from 10a.m. to 6 p.m.) on the Salem Common (next to the historic Hawthorne Hotel). This event will feature live bands who showcase many cultures and styles, as well as other performers (storytellers, martial artists, dancers, and more) who will entertain you while you enjoy exploring the unique arts, crafts, and wares of our areas finest artists and crafters.
One of the primary goals of the Salem CultureFest is to bring to the surface the many cultures and diversity found in and around Salem.
Funds raised at last year's event were used to successfully bring 10 new computers to the AEDEC school in Dakar Senegal, and to bring 10 new sewing machines to Les 3D in Porokhane, Senegal. The computer network is the first of its kind in a public school in Senegal, servicing over 1600 middle through high school students. At the training facility (Les 3D), the sewing machines are used to assist many young women in gaining employable skills from which they can support themselves.
The goal of this year's event is to raise enough money to start a multicultural center in Salem, Massachusetts.
In addition, 10% of the proceeds raised during Salem CultureFest 2007 will be donated to another local non-profit organization - HAWC. We support HAWC and their similar mission - to help women and childen.
