Filmmaker Joe Cultrera remembers watching a wrecking ball demolish the old Paramount Theater in downtown Salem when he was a boy. Like movie fans across the country, he saw a big piece of his community vanish in the rubble when his hometown theater was torn down.
But Cultrera, who recently moved back to Salem after years in New York City, was encouraged by the opening of CinemaSalem, an independently operated multi-screen theater in the parking complex that replaced the Paramount.
