The Peabody Essex Museum is both a new building (located in East Indian Square) and a new idea. A visitor’s engagement is encouraged through a new set of tools and opportunities to focus more intently on the art, to see beyond objects to their makers, the culture, and the creative process.

The Peabody Essex Museum is one of the nation’s major museums for Asian art, including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Indian art. It also houses collections of Native American and Oceanic art. The Museum campus features numerous parks, period gardens and 24 historic properties, including Yin Yu Tang, a 200-year-old house that is the only example of Chinese domestic architecture on display in the United States.
