Griffin Museum of Photography

67 Shore Rd., Winchester, MA, 01890
(781) 729-1158 - Venue Website

Opened in 1992, the Griffin Museum is the embodiment of founder Arthur Griffin’s passion — to promote an appreciation of photographic art and a broader understanding of its visual, emotional, and social impact. Arthur’s goal was to share with visitors his enthusiasm for a medium that is diverse, imaginative and informative. We are committed to continuing to encourage Arthur’s vision through the works we exhibit, the programs we offer, the artists we encourage and through Arthur’s own work which we proudly display.

Today, the Griffin Museum houses three galleries dedicated solely to the exhibition of photographic arts.

Griffin Museum Event

I had a bridal shower at the museum. It was a nightmare. Not only did it cost $980 for the evening - we were there 4 hours - the oven was so dirty that smoke filled the kitchen, set off the fire alarm and the fire department marched through the middle of the shower! The kitchen is miles from the gallery making service difficult at best. The management was not helpful in any way - and insisted that although they allow outside caterers, if I had used someone on their list I wouldn't have had any problems. I wonder what the Board of Health will have to say about that oven incident. The management told me the caterer should have turned on the exhaust fan when the smoke came pouring out of the oven. I was in the kitchen when it happened - no exhaust fan could have dissipated that amount of smoke. The event was expensive, inconvenient, mis-managed and I would highly recommend that anyone entertaining the thought of engaging the museum for an event to think again - and go somehwere else. They should limit themselves to photography. What a disaster!
